Commodore’s Message - 2015

Greetings Colington Fleet,

Welcome to another great season of boating on the Albemarle, Roanoke, and Pamlico Sounds.  Two frigid winters in a row certainly have everyone looking forward to the warmer temperatures, fair winds, and beautiful sunsets we enjoy most of the year.

Your Yacht Club Board has spent another winter planning a sailing and social calendar that everyone will be able to enjoy.  Our membership is growing, our youth sailing program is expanding, and our events calendar is evolving, all contributing to the value of club membership.  A new organization in the neighborhood, NCSail, is promoting sailing in North Carolina and is organizing a number of national regattas in our area this summer.  Along with our Youth Sailing Camp in July and numerous club regattas, there will be many volunteer opportunities this season.

From First Fridays in Manteo, GAM1 tours and information sessions, the club championship series, ASSA regattas, to our traditional Female Skippers, Bob Buchanan Cup, Kelly Kup, and Turkey races, this season is sure to have something for everyone.  The schedule continues to evolve so be sure to regularly check our website and face book page and mark your calendar for all the great events we have planned.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you out on the water or at one of our many social events.

1Definition of GAM - a visit or friendly informational conversation at sea between captain and crew of different vessels or ashore between mariners
